You Deserve More Than Just “Enough”: How to Stop Settling For Less

There’s a quiet resignation that can creep in when you’ve been waiting for something to change for too long. You convince yourself that “this will do”, or “it’s better than nothing”. You silence that voice inside that knows you deserve more. And maybe you tell yourself you’re being unrealistic, greedy, impatient, or selfish for wanting a life that actually feels good.
But here’s the truth you might need to hear today: you are not here to settle. Not in love. Not in work. Not in friendships. Not in family.

It's Time to Stop Settling
You are not meant to live a life where you’re constantly making excuses for other people’s behaviour or explaining away your own unhappiness. You are not meant to stay in places that shrink you, relationships that drain you, or jobs that leave you doubting yourself. You deserve to be where you are seen, valued, and cherished. And that’s not asking for too much. That’s asking for the bare minimum.
It’s easy to stay somewhere familiar, even if it’s unfulfilling. Familiarity can feel safe, even when it quietly chips away at your joy. But imagine what life could look like if you stopped making yourself small to fit into spaces that aren’t meant for you. Imagine how it would feel to wake up excited about where you are and who you’re with. That’s not a fantasy. It’s possible. But first, you have to believe you’re worthy of it. And you are!
You Deserve More
You are allowed to want more than “it’s fine”. You are allowed to leave conversations that make you feel unseen. You are allowed to walk away from relationships that make you feel “less than”, whether that’s romantically or platonically. You are allowed to want work that lights you up, not just pays the bills. You are allowed to say “no more” to family dynamics that break your spirit rather than build you up. Someone was once venting to me about their job and when I asked why they didn’t leave the company to work elsewhere, they said “but no one enjoys their job so it doesn’t matter”. I thought that was one of the saddest things I’d ever heard. You spend so much time at work. Why wouldn’t you want to work somewhere great doing something you enjoy?
Gratitude and Settling Are Not The Same Thing
Somewhere along the way, you might have been told you should be grateful for what you have. And yes, gratitude is powerful. It can help us find joy in everyday moments, but gratitude doesn’t mean settling. It doesn’t mean staying in spaces where your needs are overlooked. You can be grateful for the lessons learned and still choose to work towards something better. You can appreciate what something taught you and still outgrow it, including people.
Trust Your Gut
If something inside you knows there’s more, trust it. If you feel a nudge that says “this isn’t it”, listen. You don’t have to have everything figured out to take a first step. You don’t need to know exactly where you’re going to know you’re done with where you’ve been. In fact, one of the most exciting parts of making a change is learning new things along the way.
You are worthy of deep, nourishing love. Of friendships that feel like home. Of work that makes you proud and energised. Of family (biological or chosen) that celebrates who you are. You are worthy of a life that doesn’t just look good from the outside, but feels good on the inside. Stop settling for less!
It's Time to Make a Change
This is your life. You don’t get a second one. Stop waiting for someone else to give you permission to want more. Give yourself that permission now. Believe you're worth the effort, the risk, and the leap. Because you are!
You're not here to settle. You're here to thrive.
